the computer screen and cpu, that is... or perhaps just the computer screen as I seem to still be able to type in this notpad box, for the moment, as the hard drive struggles to do something with all the bits and bytes pouring in from graphics and stuff on a page out there...

if you wonder why I do not visit your myspace or website often, one reason you may never see me there is the bandwidth your page demands... if your page takes more than a minute to load, I'll probably lose interest in the wait, or more likely, it will lock up my computer and force me to use alt-ctrl-delete to close the browser and lose all the wbesites I am currently exploring (and the connections that might have come from other people's sites that might have been worthwhile or even beautiful... yes, your bandwidth could prevent the connection that could save the world!... or even the cheerleader, but let's leave this parenthetic aside to try to be a bit more serious again, shall we?)...

seriously, because of excessive bandwidth, that is, too many graphics or slide shows or videos or music or anything that downloads automatically on your page, sometimes I am forced to push the power button and lose everything not saved to that point...

unless I forget your page did that, I will not return...

I know that having an ancient computer does not help, but some pages are just so full of auto-loading slide shows and videos and music that it makes no sense (I can only view or listen to one thing at a time, after all) and would slow down even the fastest most memory-rich computers...

so consider your bandwidth because you might have a wonderful website and we might hit it off well and even become close, maybe even fall in love, but we'll never know because you (on your web your page), quite unintentionally, try to shove so much down my computer's throat at once that it chokes...

just think of all the connections with all the great people out there in the world that you mised because of this and maybe you'll realize that, if you are online to reach out to the world and find compatible people, maybe even some friends, you defeat your purpose by putting too much on your page...

so if you want me to visit your page - or if you are interested in welcoming more people (and not just the small percentage that have the most expensive computers and the most time to spend waiting for pages to load) consider setting slide shows and videos and music to not auto-start, for one thing... and consider the size of your images... read up on bandwidth and a bit of HTML and create a page that more people can visit and expand your world...

this public service announcement has been brought to you by the me and the average Joe and Jane out here in cyberspace who does not have the latest computer gear or hours to spend browsing online, but might be just the person you put your website up to find...
