starting with a shout out to anyone around (or planning a visit to) ORLANDO, FL anytime sooner or later, on November 4th I shall be in Deland, FL (about an hour north of Orlando) for a 12 hour music festival (unfortunately I will have to leave early because I have 30 Seconds to Mars tickets at The Hard Rock {almost 2 hours away} that evening, but I may be back after the concert)... for more great Southeastern USA music, check out my friend Phil's world at SSA where you can connect with many hundreds of new bands and artists...

if you are up for it, The Social Orlando is a blog (that may be moved to a more group friendly space eventually) that is intended to be open to guest correspondents who have news and reviews and connections and fun to share in the Central Florida area from Jacksonville to Sarasota, at least, and all points in between... we'll include greats stuff from Ft. Lauderdale and Miami too if we get people contributing...

it's a new idea and as with many of my new ideas, it might just sit there for a while if no one steps up to participate, but it's out here and alive and hopefully won't sit dormant for long... so locals to the sunshine state, pass it along and share your news and fun...

on another note about the first week of November in the USA (it's not all about music and fun, ya know... anybody else noticing that gas prices have come down more than 25% just in time for the elections?... wanna bet there is some crisis that sends gas prices soaring within 6 months after the elections?... anyway), if you are feeling at all political and want to say something directly to your elected officials, here you go:

(202) 456-1111
The White House

(202) 224-3121
Senate and Congress

YOU'VE GOT THE RIGHTS
USE THEM

the first number is where you can leave a message for the President of the USA, whomever he may be.... ask for a response... the second number is the switchboard where you can ask to be connected directly to your local Senator or Congress-person's office...

call anytime...

thanks to you for reminding me of these numbers... we can sit back and be arm chair complainers and bore those around us or we can reach out and touch the people who matter, the people paid big bucks to make the decisions that effect everyone in the USA and many in the world... ask for the name of the person you are connected to and ask for a response to your comment, query, or message from the Senator or Congressperson... if it seems wishy-washy, put it in writing and mail it to them... let them know they are not as insulated as they think... and most importantly, let them know you care more than they think...

maybe the best thing about democracy is that it's not just in theory that this axiom holds true:

people get the government they deserve...

an apathetic people get an apathetic government in which the few who care to grab the wealth and power can do mostly as they please unimpeded by general public opinion, what the majority really wants, or what is best for everyone...

go get the government you deserve...

so I'm sitting here listening to Death Cab for Cutie (who I'll be seeing sometime in November, the 19th, I believe... I'll post an updated list of upcoming concerts I've got on my calendar if you are interested, futher fostering the illusion of my faux celebrity, I suppose, aye?) with the TV playing college football on semi-mute and Tasha and Mishy and two other friends (potential boyfriends, perhaps... I know, shutup) just barrelled in and out of the space and decided you ought to know what I just told you in this post...

time for munchies...

hope your Saturday is as much fun as mine (or more, even)
